Avon Motorsport is the official tyre partner to the British-based Time Attack series for 2013 and is supplying its acclaimed ZZR tyres and full competition slicks to competitors. In the first event of the year at Cadwell Park, Avon claimed fastest outright lap of all the 51 drivers and a Time Attack lap record in qualifying, followed by a superb second place overall in the intensely close Pro Class final thanks to the Mitsubishi Evo of Gareth Lloyd.
Originating in Japan and introduced to the UK in 2005, Time Attack is a racing challenge which defines the art of purposeful car modification; production-based cars with no power or upgrade limitations, tuned to the finest detail fight it out against the clock to produce the fastest lap time.
The series runs at top circuits across the UK and originally used a single tyre supplier before opening up to competition in 2012. As an official tyre partner to the championship for 2013, Avon will showcase its ZZR and competition rubber at events across the UK, with Avon technical teams supporting competitors at events.
Time Attack organiser, Andy Barnes, is keen to welcome Avon into the fold for 2013: “We are very pleased to welcome Avon Tyres to Time Attack for the very first time. Our nonexclusive championship regulations with tyre brands allow all MSA List 1a, 1b and full competition tyres to be used depending on class and Avon has been quick off the mark to recognise the potential to infiltrate our grid with a range of products that is perfectly suited to Time Attack.”
Within the series, there are four competition classes: Street, Club Challenge, Club Pro and Pro, catering for all power levels and drive lines. Categories are separated into sessions on track with the leading times from qualifying progressing to the final where the points and positions are decided.
The next round of Time Attack takes place at Croft on Saturday, 11 May. Follow all the action at www.timeattack.co.uk.
