Avon Tyres has signed a three-year agreement with Lotus on Track Racing Drivers' Club to supply tyres to its burgeoning race championships across the UK and Europe.
The partnership adds to Avon’s already colourful motorsport portfolio, further underlining its status as one of the most prolific tyre producers in the world.
Lotus on Track is Europe’s largest track day club that offers a myriad of racing experiences to Lotus enthusiasts, while the Lotus on Track Racing Drivers’ Club was formed to create a race series for Lotus owners.
Avon is set to provide road legal ZZR tyres for competitors in the Lotus Elise Trophy and the Lotus Cup Europe from 2013, with Lotus Cup UK drivers using racing wets alongside the ZZRs in the first year of the deal.
Paul Coates, General Manager of Avon Tyres Motorsport, said of the three-year deal, “It’s great for Avon to expand its motorsport expertise into yet another form of sports car racing. The Lotus on Track championships have brought a great number of new racers into motorsport, are hugely popular and we’re really looking forward to working together in the years to come.”
Launched in 2006 in conjunction with MotorSport Vision Racing (MSVR), the club provides a safe, friendly, sociable and cost-effective environment for driving enthusiasts. The organisation now boasts responsibility for three major racing championships as well as the annual Lotus Festival and the Lotus Brands Hatch six-hour race.
The Lotus on Track Elise Trophy was established in 2007 and with this came capacity grids and huge support from owners and fans across the UK and Europe.
In 2009, Lotus on Track Drivers’ Club assumed responsibility for the organisation of Lotus Cup Europe – the world’s only official Group Lotus owned race series – which visits some of Europe’s most iconic race tracks and regularly features grids of up to 40 cars.
Entering its third year in 2013, the Lotus Cup UK is an accessible form of motorsport, open to the vast majority of Lotus race cars, with seven rounds in the UK and an overseas visit to Spa Francorchamps, Belgium.
Split into Production and SuperSport championships, most modern Lotus cars are catered for including the Elise and Exige (S1 and S2), 340R, 211 and Evora models of the famous British marque, while the Elise Trophy welcomes drivers of both S1 and S2 Elise and Exige sportscars.
The 2013 Lotus Cup UK and Lotus Elise Trophy seasons begin at Snetterton on April 6, with the Lotus Cup Europe curtain raiser taking place at the Nurburgring on April 19 and 20.
