Motorcycle road racer Sam Smith is racing with JHS in the 2014 Mini Twin Championship (BMCRC). Out of the 14 races that he started this year on Avon tyres he has clocked up a total of six wins, 10 podium finishes and set a ThundersportGB Mini Twin lap record by over a second at Donington, which was the second round of the series. At the opening round, which took place at Brands Hatch in early March, 15 year-old Sam claimed two third place finishes and two victories – lapping all weekend just outside the lap record.
Continuing his success, he took three wins and a second place finish at Donington, followed by a victory, another podium, a DNF and a fifth at Snetterton.
Missing Cadwell Park, due to damage to his bike, Haywards Heath born Sam then went on at Oulton Park to finish fourth in both races due to poor starts – but the lap times on the Avons were good and were as strong on the last lap as they were on the first.
Out of 24 riders in the championship, Sam is currently third in the riders’ standings on 283 points, sitting 72 points behind the championship leader Daniel Taylor. There are still 16 races still be played out this season, meaning there are numerous points that can still be won and lost.
The next round of the series takes place at Rockingham on 26-27 July.
